Past the school and down the road, we’d never be wallflowers again. Down the street and past our houses, we were never unhappy and alone when we were together. Our feet hitting the sidewalk in an awkward rhythm as we passed the church, we’d never have to talk to a statue to find forgiveness. Through the city and away from our other lives, we found our pattern and our motion with each other. Through the park we’d christened as our own, and past the bench we always sat at when we were waiting for the other, and down the little dirt path that had been full of brambles before our feet beat back the brush
